Welcome
- Grendon Sapphires was started over 15 years ago when a few lads ask if they could make a village team the club has grown over the years to the point that the village playing field was no longer big enough for the number of boys and girls that had joined ,hence our move up to Yardley road where we lease six and a half acre from compton estates this was from the out set called the Yardley road development and included both the football club and the cricket club ,but sadley for various reasons the cricket club have as yet been unable to join us .
Grendon sapphires youth football club has continued to develope the site from completely reseeding and moleing for better drainage to form filling for grants and holding various events to raise funds for the footpath from sweetacre close to the feild and numerous other things that are needed to run the club .*In february 2006 we achieved the football associations charter standard , which means as a club we have complied with all regulations that have been put in place by the fa to ensure that children are safe , are taught correctly that all coaches are crb checked and have a first aid and child protection certificate and hold at least a level 1 coaching certificate , so it it not just a case of let the children run riot in an open space all training sessions are pre-planned and structured to the age group and abililty of each age group .
It was decided that once we had found a permanant home we would try and build a small club house or something to call home , mid november 2008 after yet more form filling an unknown amount of emails and phone calls building work stated on "OUR VERY OWN" building because of finances we are doing the build in two phases the first haveing been started and will include home and away changeing rooms with toilets and showers ,two officials changing rooms again with toilets and shower a disabled toilet ,public toilet ,and a kitchen area . There is a real buzz around the club at the moment as after many years hard work by past and present members , friends and local companys ,our little village club has been asked to join with the might of mcdonalds restraunts to become a local community partner ,so pop into the drive through mcdonalds at the top of wilby as we are very pleased to have been paired up with Perry and his team up there .*

If there is anyone out there who would like to start a tennis club ,netball club ,in fact any sport or recreational activity then please get in touch with us ,For far to long the Yardley road development has been referred to as the football field we would like to point out that it is in fact the Yardley road sports field but is the home of grendon sapphires your village football club there are grants available to start up and help run most types of clubs and in fact we have already spoken to the parish council with the idea of erecting a multi use games area (muga ) this is some where that has a hard surface and the ground is marked out for a number of different sports ,we are waiting for their response .*
- SEMI-FINALS FOR GRENDON
After switching the fixture to play away at Cogenhoe due to standing water on the pitch at Grendon ,obelisk needed to win the fixture to ensure that they would play in the semi-finals however sapphires struck first in an end to end game that saw both sides play some nice football as the games end drew ever closer tension was running high nails began to be bitten by both sets of supporters ,but grendon held their ground and as the final whistle blew walked away with the point that was needed to see them through to the semi-final of the Alan dimmer cup .*
- Builders are back
Despite the cold snap the builders returned this week to sweep the snow out from the inside and as the temparatures rose the internal block work was continued with as well as the external brickwork getting up to door level ,The gas board have been and installed the tank and pipework so we now await the arrival of the electric . We would like to thank Pete Newcombe and his staff at thorpe paveing for soldiering on in what have been some very bitter conditions up on the site.
