Grendon Sapphires

The club has been successful in its bid for a grant from the Football Foundation. A grant of 76% has been obtained towards the much-needed toilets and changing facilities. It is hoped that work will start on this project within the next two months, and be finished by the beginning of the new football season. The club still has some fund-raising to do for its part of the cost of the project. Two of the ideas are for the club members and any members of the community to “Buy a Brick” at £2 for a brick; and also a Bottle Bank, when we provide a small bottle and you fill it with any loose change available. If anyone would like to help raise funds in this way, please let us know.

The adult team which was set up at the start of the season is going very well. They play in the Northants Sunday Conference League, and, if they have a home match, kick-off is at 10.30 am. The U-15’s now play in the Weetabix League. Their matches are played on Sunday afternoons, kick-off at 2.30pm. Both teams would like any support that the local community can give on match days, so do come along and cheer them on.

The U-11, U-9 and U-8’s all play in the Northants Youth Football League. You can go on to the website to see the clubs that are involved in this league. The younger members, U-7 and U-6’s play friendly matches.

If you would like to be involved in any way on the Committee, with training, making teas when we have a match, or cutting the grass, please come along. We never tun help away! Training sessions are on Saturday mornings from 10.30 am.

We have been asked to set up a women’s football team. Are there any ladies interested in playing? The next fund-raising event will be a Clairvoyant Evening on Saturday, 24th February in the Village Hall. Tickets are £8. The clairvoyant, back by popular demand, is Dennis Binks.
